Dance Church®

Dance Church® is an all-levels movement class taught by professional dance artists that offers a fun and inclusive approach to dancing. Designed for people of all shapes and sizes, backgrounds and identities, Dance Church is a communal space for people who want to move their bodies.

The teacher leads this 70-ish minute class in a series of movement cues, accompanied by a curated playlist of multi-genre pop music. The format is open but guided throughout. No prior dance experience necessary, but open mindedness is a prerequisite.

Dance Church classes are offered in dance spaces across the country. Our mission is to bring the joy and release of dance to every body, while supporting dance artists and partner organizations, and making connections between class takers and the dance world.

DC History

Dance Church began in 2010 as a small Sunday morning movement practice in Seattle, created by Kate Wallich. What started as an intimate gathering quickly blossomed into a joyful community of dancers and non-dancers alike.

Over the course of a decade, Dance Church has grown into a massive community, with people from all walks of life coming together to dance and sweat. Dance Church has no religious affiliation; the name was born from class takers reclaiming their Sunday morning ritual, creating a space for community and movement.

Our Growing Dance Floor

In-person classes became regular events in cities like New York, Seattle, Portland, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles, all taught by professional dance artists, with pop-up classes happening worldwide. When the world needed to stay apart, we created Dance Church Go, a streaming version of our in-person classes that allowed us to keep dancing together from anywhere.

Since then, we officially launched our teacher training program, empowering a new generation of Dance Church instructors to get Dance Church communities started in cities across the country. Our dance family expanded from our four flagship cities to over 15 cities and counting nationwide.

We’ve forged exciting partnerships with brands you know, organizations you love, and bands you can't stop listening to, further enriching the Dance Church experience and expanding our reach to new audiences.

With international expansion on the horizon, Dance Church continues to spread joy through movement, bringing people together to dance, connect, and celebrate (soon to be) around the globe.
