ABOUT Amelia
Amelia is a performer, creator, and movement facilitator raised on the Osage Plains of central Oklahoma and based in Atlanta, GA. Amelia’s work nurtures creative impulse, often exploring everyday human interactions to question our making of the world through language and body memory. Amelia’s movement practice in performance and teaching researches outward expressions of internal experiences such as grief, joy, rage, pleasure and human desires for beauty, poetics, validation, and connection. Outside of Dance Church, Amelia offers weekly mindfulness practices for the community through somatic improvisation, public yoga classes, and trauma informed mindfulness practices with incarcerated youth through non-profit CenteringYouth.

When Dancing

Amelia is guided by the (not-so) radical remembering that dance is born from ritual and the belief that art is a form of dissent. Thematic content in her solo making and freelance practices include repetition and effort, emergence, heartbreak, queerness, lineage, spiritual inquiry, and our connection to the natural world.

When Not Dancing

Amelia is outside as often as possible… sipping coffee on the porch, group bike rides, camping in the woods, hiking to waterfalls, gardening, reading in the park with friends, and walking the neighborhood with her good-girl Fig. Lover of intimate dinner parties, art openings, drag shows, and late night DJ sets.
