ABOUT Karl
Born in Cleveland, OH, Karl is now a New York City-based arts management leader and dance artist. He received his BFA in Dance Performance from Butler University in 2012. Karl lived and danced in Chicago after graduation, dancing for Luna Negra Dance Theater and Visceral Dance Chicago. In 2016, he moved to Seattle, where he was a dancer, and later Company Manager & Director of Education for Whim W’Him Seattle Contemporary Dance. Currently, Karl is the Company Manager for Ballet Hispánico and developing his personal artistic practice. Karl continues to find joy in teaching Dance Church, which he started teaching in 2018.
When Dancing
Karl loves the shared experience of movement. Whether in a ballet class, improvising during creative process, or clapping during step touch at Dance Church, Karl thrives on the community dance creates. Witnessing transformation in himself and others keeps dance at the center of Karl’s life.
When Not Dancing
Karl is currently soaking up as much New York City life as possible. From art galleries and museums, to concerts and performances, you can find him taking in as many experiences as possible. On the subway or walking around, Karl is usually catching up on podcasts or audiobooks about anything really; politics, standup comedy, quantum physics, history, pop culture and more.
